About

Chloe Austin is a London based art writer and visual art programmer. She currently manages international visual arts programming at the British Council. In this role, she supports UK and  international curators, particularly those based in the Global South, to meet and work together. She has managed a fund which supports artists to participate in international and UK festivals and biennials. She was previously the Exhibitions & Research Manager at Maximillian William, London and has held positions at Iniva and the Barbican Centre.

Chloe organised several exhibitions at Maximillian William including the debut solo exhibition of artist Richard Maguire, What Happens to Remain Unsaid (2023). She co-curated Link Me at the Sound System with Harlesden High Street (2023), which featured work by Savannah Marie Harris, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Jesse Akele, Linett Kamala, Charlie Phillips, PJ Harper and Paul Anthony Smith.

Chloe is interested in accessible communication. While working as a Curatorial Trainee at iniva, she created a podcast to celebrate the work of the cultural researchers volunteering at the Stuart Hall Library. She appeared as a guest critic on BBC4 Front Row, hosted an artist roundtable for Walker Art Gallery and programmed and moderated conversations with artists for Soho House. She has written features for Art UK and the Modernist Review. As a critic she has reviewed exhibitions at Tate Britain, Two Temple Place and Firstsite for radio, academic journals and online platforms.

Based in London, UK, Chloe has a global perspective informed by her research interest in art made by artists from diasporic communities in the UK and more recently by her work in international cultural relations.
