About

Born in Hong Kong, Gaye Chan studied photography in Hawaii and in San Francisco. The artist works in both visual arts and film, and is the Chair of the Photography Programme at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and is the art Director of TinFish, a journal of experimental poetry with an emphasis on work from the Pacific region.

Gaye Chan immigrated to the United States in 1969. She received her Master of Fine Art degree from San Francisco Art Institute and is currently a professor of photography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Chan has been actively exhibiting her work since 1979 and has had recent solo exhibitions at venues such as Art in General (New York City), YYZ (Toronto), Artspeak (Vancouver), Gallery 4A (Sydney), SF Camerawork (San Francisco) and The Contemporary Museum (Honolulu).
