Dr. Petrine Archer-Straw is a British/Jamaican art historian. She gained her Ph.D at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London in the early 90s. Since then she has been working as lecturer and curator.

She has created exhibitions such as ‘Home and Away’, October Gallery, 1994, ‘New World Imagery’, Hayward Gallery, London, 1996, and ‘Photos and Phantasms’, British Council, London and touring. Her most significant publications include: ‘Jamaican Art: an overview 1922 – 1982’, ‘Kingston’, 1989; ‘Africa: the art of a continent’ (coordinating editor), Royal Academy, London, 1995; ‘Fifty Years – Fifty Artists’ (ed.), Kingston, 2000, and ‘Negrophilia: avant-garde Paris and black culture in the 1920s’, London, 2000. She was one of the key speakers at the third platform of Documenta 11, ‘Creolite and Creolization’ in 2002.
