About

Tony Cragg studied Fine Art at the Gloucester College of Art and Design, the Wimbledon School of Art and at the Royal College of Art from 1968 until 1977.

During this period minimalism and conceptual art radically changed traditional sculpture. Cragg’s uncompromising openness to the use of unconventional materials and artistic practices made him one of the most important innovators of the medium.

In 1988 he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale and won the prestigious Turner Prize. A retrospective exhibition at the Centre George Pompidou in 1996 marks the latest highpoint of his career.

Since 1978 he has worked as a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He lives in Wuppertal, Germany.
