About

Mieko is a Japanese artist whose stream of consciousness poetry floats above dysfunctional beats and fractured musical landscapes. After performing as a vocalist and pianist with her own band and scoring numerous Manga animated feature films, Meiko has relocated to London.

Mieko has released three solo albums and founded the project ‘Mekong Zoo’ with Japanese violinist Aska Kaneko. She created the experimental Drum ‘n Bass project ‘Apache 61’, which toured extensively across Europe. Recently, she collaborated with Nitin Sawhney and other artists for Aftershock at the Royal Festival Hall and supported Massive Attack at the 2007 Meltdown.

Mieko Shimizu is currently working with the Royal Festival Hall as part of their emerging artist scheme.
