About

Photographer Jean Mohr received his Master’s degree in Economic and Social Sciences at Geneva University. In 1949 he moved to the Middle East to work with Palestinian refugees as a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross and later for UNRWA. He then studied painting at the Académie Julian in Paris before coming to photography at the age of thirty.

Jean Mohr is best known for his collaboration with his long-time friend and creative partner John Berger. They have worked on numerous publications including: A Fortunate Man: The Story of a Country Doctor (1967), A Seventh Man (1976) about the experience of migrant workers in Europe and Another Way of Telling (1981). He also collaborated with the late Edward W. Said on After the Last Sky: Palestinian Lives (1986) where Said responded to Mohr’s photographs with a poetic meditation on Palestinian identity.
