Deborah Findlater

  • CountryUnited Kingdom
  • Born1992

Never one to see things in isolation, Deborah Findlater chose to undertake a joint History with Film Studies degree. Drawing on the theoretical work she came across as an undergraduate, she is committed to filmmaking from an analytical and experimental stance. Her work dissects a variety of topics related to race, class, gender and culture including the lasting effects of colonialism, intersectional feminism and London sub-cultures.

One of her particular points of interest is Black British music culture which has manifested itself in her hosting a radio show, DJing and writing for the likes of PinBoard Blog. For her there is great importance in theorising popular culture in a way that’s accessible and non-elitist.

Baldwin’s Nigger Reloaded marks her artistic debut.
