Erena Hernández is a journalist, curator and art critic. She completed postgraduate studies in art history from the University of Havana in 1985. From 1994 to 2005 she was Curator at the Centre for Development of Visual Art, Havana, following positions as Specialist and Journalist for the Cuban Ministry of Culture.

She is a contributor to Art Nexus, Bogotá; Cuba Update, New York; and Atlántica, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, amongst other art magazines. Her articles, interviews and reports have appeared in many Cuban newspapers and cultural magazines. She has also contributed texts on Cuban artists to many catalogues.

Hernández has participated in conferences on Cuban art in numerous institutions including Centre for Development of Visual Art, Havana; Hunter College, The Museum of Modern Art and Art in General Gallery, New York; Rutgers College, New Jersey; University of Texas at Austin; Centro Cultural de la Raza, San Diego; Spelman College, Atlanta; University of New Mexico, Albuquerque; University of California, Los Angeles.
