Milena Bonilla holds degrees in the visual arts from the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogotá (2000) and in industrial design from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá (1995).
She has received several honours and awards including the National Award for the production of an Artist Book, Ministry of culture of Colombia (2008) and received the First Prize at the 10º. Salón Regional de Artistas de Bogotá (2003). She was an artist in residence at the Fellowship programme Residencias artísticas Colombia – Reino Unido, Ministry of Culture of Colombia and Visiting Arts, England (2005), and is currently in residence at Rijksakademie van beldende kunsten, Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2009-2010).
Bonilla’s solo exhibitions include Manuscritos, Valenzuela Klenner Gallery, Bogotá (2008); Manuscrito Siniestro, El Bodegón – Arte Contemporáneo, vida social, Bogotá (2008); Limítrofe, Valenzuela Klenner Gallery, Bogotá (2006); Lugares comunes / Bocetos para Jardín, Alianza Colombo Francesa, Bogotá (2004). Her recent group exhibitions include X Havana Biennial, Havana (2009); Asimetrías y Convergencias, Vermelho Gallery, Sao Paulo (2009), BB3 Bucharest Biennial, Bucharest (2008), and Once More with Feeling, Photographer’s Gallery, London (2008).
