Step into our World is part of ‘Liminal: A question of position’ – a major exhibition at Rivington Place. The INIvators, in collaboration with artists Larry Achiampong and Chris Lane and students from London Metropolitan University, explore the nature of the digital moving image in our contemporary society and its complexities in relation to individual experience.
Step into our World involves the building of a multimedia repository collected from public and personal archives, online copyright-free material and submissions from members of the public. This repository becomes the source for the creation of several artworks that question widely held assumptions about the impact of new communications technologies. The artworks will be on display in the foyer of Rivington Place – a space of transition and reception that is sometimes overlooked as a viewing platform. Alluding to the multi-faceted links between digital media, authorship, alternate realities and private use of public archives, these works investigate personal journeys, relationships and hierarchies of information.
Each work has an interactive counterpart in the Learning Lab where the public are encouraged to contribute and provide commentary.
The Learning Lab is open in the Education Space from Thursdays to Saturdays during gallery hours as part of Creating Narrative: Objects, Images and Contributions.
