Present Land is a community art project based in Westminster, exploring climate justice through creative collaboration. Over four participatory workshops hosted at the Stuart Hall Library, local residents will work with a commissioned artist to reflect on environmental issues and share strategies for sustainable action. Prioritising youth (16–25) and older adults (65+), the project proposes intergenerational dialogue while addressing social isolation and climate inequality. Community members will help shape the programme, and present their work during a final open day. Resources developed will be shared online, expanding public access and long-term impact.
Through an open call, Maymana Arefin has been selected as the artist for Present Land. This was a paid opportunity for an artist to spend time with a community in Westminster, build a relationship of trust and mutual learning, and shape a creative response to the climate crisis through intergenerational dialogue.
Maymana will work with iniva’s Curator and members of the Climate Reframe network to create and lead the workshops. Utilising Maymana’s artistic practice, she has developed The Fruitings Will Come, a four-part workshop series at Grand Junction realised in collaboration with Climate Reframe members, bringing communities together to share knowledge, lived experience and creativity. Through nature walks, textile craft, soil play and storytelling, we will nurture radical intergenerational dialogue around care, climate justice and belonging.
Present Land is supported by Westminster City Council.
