A performance by Goshka Macuga in collaboration with Ansuman Biswas as part of the exhibition Tagore’s Universal Allegories.
Working with the interdisciplinary artist and musician Ansuman Biswas, Goshka Macuga has conceived an event based on the famous conversation ‘On the nature of reality‘ that took place between Tagore and Einstein at Einstein’s house near Berlin in 1930, a transcript of which is on display in the exhibition.
The conversation will be interpreted by musicians listening to the transcript via earpieces in the gallery space amongst Anna Boghiguian’s artwork for installation A Play to Play. They will interject, accompany, echo, ignore or respond to what they hear using the Germanic and Bengali sound worlds Tagore and Einstein knew and loved.
Goshka Macuga is an interdisciplinary artist working across a variety of media, including sculpture, installation, photography, architecture and design. The Polish-born artist now lives and works in London.
She has exhibited widely across Europe and America including dOCUMENTA (13) and solo shows at Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2011), Kunsthalle Basel (2009), and Tate Britain, London (2007).In 2008 she was nominated for the Turner Prize.
Ansuman Biswas was born in Calcutta and trained in the UK. He now has an international practice encompassing music, film, live art, installation, writing and theatre. He is interested in hybridity and interdisciplinarity, often working between science, art and industry, for instance, or between music, dance and visual art.
