As part of its Emerging Practices programme Iniva presents Contemporary Rites as curated by Teresa Cisneros; a three week series of live art performances taking place in the Education Space from 6 – 20 November, where 11 artists and curators will consider the role of ritual in contemporary performance and live art.
Opening the series of performances and conversations on rites and rituals in contemporary art is Jack Tan’s performance A KISS IS JUST A KISS as part of the ongoing project The Office of Public Ritual (OPR).
A KISS IS JUST A KISS is a ritual that uses the convention of kissing as blessing. It is a performance that invokes a sense of the originating spirit of Iniva and explores gestures of affection, consecration, and goodwill. The performance draws on material from Iniva’s archive as well as interviews with supporters and friends. Audience members are invited to bring an object to be part of the ritual if they wish.
The OPR is a service that creates bespoke rituals for significant occasions or life events. Iniva has commissioned a ritual performance from OPR for public presentation.
We run a waiting list, if you register and then drop out please email us: info@iniva.org
This is a free event but places are limited.
