This summer, artist Monica de Miranda will work with a group of young people from Max Roach Centre in Lambeth to make exploratory journeys into the two London boroughs of Hackney and Brixton. They will collect data and material to create a series of artworks based around the ideas of journeys and mapping in relation to personal and cultural identities.
These young people will make journeys with the artist around their local neighbourhoods as well as exploring the less familiar territory of Iniva’s home borough Hackney. Collecting data and documenting their experiences as they go – using photography, video and drawing – participants will be encouraged to consider the significance of location and place in relation to their own cultural and personal identities.
The resulting artworks will be displayed at Rivington Place with an exhibition in the Education Space and an installation inside a special onsite caravan.
Exhibition in Education Space: 4-6 September
Caravan installation: 6 September
