The Experience of Heritage Georgina Evans

Artists and art therapists share an interest in mapping the emotionally charged and historically potent psycho-geography of everyday life. Bringing to the surface society’s conscious and unconscious biases is part of this process.

Join us for an afternoon workshop at Iniva’s Stuart Hall Library, in a safe and confidential space to look more deeply into our own experiences and the ways in which the world around us has impacted on our personal history. The workshop is open to all and will include practical tasks and art making as well as reflection and discussion.

Discussions will include:
– Exploring the meaning of ‘heritage’.
– What are some of the conscious and unconscious associations with the term ‘heritage’.
– What are some of the impacts of mixed family ‘norms’?
– What kinds of internal splits of inner conflicts arise through the idea and experience of heritage.

The workshop will be facilitated by art psychotherapist Georgina Evans. Georgina was born in Nigeria and is of mixed heritage. Exploring ideas relating to how our identitiy is shaped has always been of key interest to her both as an artist and as a therapist.

This event is part of a series of explorative workshops aimed at engaging young people with all that the Stuart Hall Library has to offer.
