Pronoia is the belief that the world is conspiring to help you, as such it is both an antidote for and the opposite to, paranoia.
Artists Theresa Rahman and Agnès Poitevin-Navarre work with artists in collaboration with Shape to explore pronoia. Through a series of workshops, the group identified key words, symbols and pictograms that define their personal, pronoid journeys. Using these components, each participant mapped their anecdotal boundaries across London through mixed media, collage, animation, photography and sculpture.
The group then discussed and described their family histories. These histories became material to map out family constellations, linking events and situations that form the pronoid journey that culminated in their parents’ meeting. The resulting work effectively mythologises each participant’s pronoid journey into the world.
