From Seville’s Macarena Madonna to the British Museum’s Assyrian Lion Hunt reliefs, from Mexican baroque to the handbag shops of Hackney and Brixton, Hew Locke draws on an extraordinary range of references to make his complex and layered work. He has said of his practice: ‘I have desperately been trying, like an eel, you know, to slip between categories, not to be pinned down.’
Join the artist in the gallery as he talks about his influences, practice and new installation – The Kingdom of the Blind.
Admission is free. Booking advised: bookings@rivingtonplace.org or 020 7749 1240.
