Browsing prints for Shutterbug Bizarre pop-up

Exploring Iniva’s Print Collection for ‘Shutterbug Bizarre’ festive pop-up with new staff member Jenny Starr

Iniva is pleased to welcome a new staff member –  Business Development Manager, Jenny Starr, to the team! Jenny will be helping Iniva to develop a collection of prints for sale, the proceeds of which will go towards Iniva’s exhibitions and events programme.

Last week Jenny was looking through the existing collection of prints and chose five to be hung downstairs at Rivington Place for Shutterbug’s Christmas pop-up bar and arts space Shutterbug Bizarre, open to the public until 20 December.

Jenny says, ‘It was really nice to get out all the prints, unwrap them and have a good look at them. There isn’t usually a public space for us to display them at Rivington Place so its great to put them up for everyone to see. I’m sure a lot of people aren’t even aware that we sell prints! The prints I have chosen are: Peter Clarke’s Homage to the Poet Langston Hughes, Sonia Boyce Good Morning Freedom, David Adjaye LxWxH, Clifford Charles Fall, and Neeta Madahar Sky, Seeds and Me.’

Since 2004 Iniva has been developing a thought-provoking range of limited prints from influential and exciting artists we have worked with over the years, offering our audiences the opportunity to purchase artwork by emerging and established visual artists, with prices from £75. Each artwork that Jenny selected has an intriguing narrative that propels them beyond the aesthetic.

David Adjaye LxWxH Limited edition print, Iniva

‘Starchitect’ David Adjaye, who designed Iniva’s home, Rivington place, sketched LxWxH whilst working on the site in 2003. The pencil sketch details an installation Adjaye built on the empty site, but also reflects his emphasis on transcending the architectural toward the personal journey. (LxWxH, Pencil on Paper, Edition of 50. £242).

Sonia Boyce Iniva limited edition Print

Sonia Boyce Iniva limited edition Print

Our most recent limited print Good Morning Freedom is by the celebrated British artist Sonia Boyce MBE and was developed in conjunction with her solo show at Iniva ‘Scat: Sound and Collaboration‘ earlier this year. Referencing the title and lyrics of the 1970’s hit ‘Good Morning Freedom’ by the band Blue Mink; the print’s psychedelic appeal is imbued with the artist’s own cultural experience. Boyce’s artistic career has embraced many forms of depiction including pattern and bright colours, and has recently begun using aural mediums to comment on black, female and personal experience. This print brings both of her resonant styles together. Anyone who has heard ‘Good Morning Freedom’ will find themselves humming the addictive onomatopoeic ‘A-Bee Bow Bow Ba-Ba Ba-Ba Bow’ for the rest of December!  You can watch Sonia’s introduction to the print here:

Come down to Shutterbug Bizarre and browse our limited edition prints, find out more about their unique narratives and make a purchase until 20 December. And with every print purchase we are giving away a free copy of our bestselling publication ‘Changing States: Contemporary Art and Ideas in an Era of Globalisation’ throughout the month.

Shutterbug Bizarre will be open to the public as part of the ‘Make Hackney Sparkle’ celebrations filling Rivington Street with an array of festivities this  month. You will also be able to see limited prints from Autograph ABP and there will be a café and lounge to relax in and a programme of performances and activities.
